Conservative Lead Grows

According to Harris/Decima Chairman Allan Gregg “The last two weeks have seen a reversal in fortune for the governing Conservatives. They now lead the Liberals in all regions of the country other than Quebec, and are particularly strong in the key battleground of British Columbia. Despite this newfound strength however, they are still slightly below the support they received in the 2008 federal election, meaning a majority government is likely still out of reach, as of now”

  • Over the last two weeks, the Conservatives have opened up a nine point lead. The Conservatives stand at 36%, the Liberals 27%, the NDP 16%, the Greens 11% and the BQ 8%.
  • In Quebec, the BQ lead has fallen to single digits. The BQ stands at 35%, the Liberals 26%, the Conservatives 15%, the NDP 12% and the Greens 11%.
  • The Conservatives have opened up a five point lead in Ontario. Here they stand at 39%, compared to 34% for the Liberals, 14% for the NDP and 12% for the Greens.
  • After a close race for several weeks, the Conservatives are pulling away in BC. Here, they stand at 39%, compared to 27% for the NDP, 17% for the Liberals and 15% for the Greens.
  • The Conservatives are well in front on the Prairies.
    • In Manitoba and Saskatchewan they stand at 47%, compared to 23% for the NDP, 17% for the Liberals and 11% for the Greens.
    • In Alberta, the Conservatives are at 59%, with 18% supporting the Liberals, 12% the NDP and 8% the Greens.
  • The Conservatives are now in front in Atlantic Canada. Here, they stand at 39%, to 32% for the Liberals, 24% for the NDP and 6% for the Greens.

These data were gathered through teleVox, Harris/Decima’s national telephone omnibus survey over two weeks between May 13 and May 23 2010 for 2,010 completes. A sample of the same size has a margin of error of 2.2%, 19 times out of 20.
